What is the Falling Stars Challenge?
The “Falling Stars” challenge is the latest trend spreading on Weibo and Instagram as the elite youth flaunt their wealth on social media.
The new #fallingstars2018 challenge invites people to take part and share their best fake fall. They in turn nominate their friends and followers to do the same.

The idea behind the heavily posed falling star challenge photos is to make them as ridiculous as possible. A top tier falling stars challenge post isn’t just a person with their face on the pavement, one leg still just barely in the car. It also includes all of the objects the person was supposedly carrying when they fell “scattered” very unconvincingly around them.
According to South China Morning Post, the trend is also known as the “flaunt your wealth” challenge in Mandarin, and started in Russia before mega-rich Chinese kids adopted it.
The post photos of themselves splayed out on the ground in front of their luxury a car or a private jet and surround themselves with their expensive personal items, as if they were carrying all of their purchases at once and artfully dropped all of them when they fell.
While it’s unclear which post first started the challenge, one of the earliest popular posts was posted August 8th, 2018 by Instagram user ramos_catherine posted a version where she appeared to have fallen out of a private jet. The post gained over 4,000 likes.
Here are some other examples of new hype challenge that soon may challenge the US as well.
