Vegan burgers are close as never before. In January, the Beyond Meat company will launch its plant-based burgers in its largest restaurant partner yet – TGI Friday’s, Fast Company reports.

TGI Friday’s goes vegan

The TGI Friday’s chain will offer healthier food as vegan burgers with Beyond Meat are expected to appear at more than 465 their locations. Beyond Burger is a plant-based beef alternative that tastes and cooks like their animal-protein patty, but it’s free from cholesterol and doesn’t harm the animals.

In case you don’t know what we are talking about, Beyond Meat is a company aiming to create healthier meat made from plants.

“At Beyond Meat, we started with simple questions. Why do you need an animal to create meat? Why can’t you build meat directly from plants? It turns out you can. So we did,” Ethan Brown, Founder & CEO said.

 Meat from plants?

Starting from May 2016, Beyond Meat has partnered with major grocers and distributors including Safeway, Kroger, and Sysco to get its frozen products into 12,000 stores (the burger is currently in 3,500 outlets). Moreover, they also received the investments from Leonardo DiCaprio.

Their key feature is that the company efforts to made their product meat-like.

And they actually succeed in making a taste and texture that seems like the real thing—the burger even “bleeds.”

“The world’s first plant-based burger that looks, cools, and satisfies so much like beef it’s in the meat section of grocery stores,” said on the company’s website.

Still their major challenge now is to make the middle of the Beyond Burger patty to become brown like real beef does, because the customers can overcook meat as it remains pink (the color comes from beet juice).

Each new version brings Beyond Meat closer to its goal of indistinguishability. CEO Ethan Brown says, “Our products are so good there’s no reason to consider it a sacrifice.”
