World’s Longest Sea-Crossing Bridge to Open in China + 4 More Biggest Bridges on Earth

Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge 

A $20-billion bridge connecting Hong Kong and Macau to the mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai will be opened this week, becoming world’s longest sea-crossing bridge!

“With the bridge, the traveling time between Hong Kong and the Western Pearl River Delta region will be shortened significantly, thereby bringing the Western Pearl River Delta region within three hours’ drive from Hong Kong,” the city’s transport secretary, Frank Chan.

Opened: 2018.
Length: 39,000 m.

Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge

Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge is the longest bridge on our planet as its total length is 164.8 kilometers. It is a long viaduct and a part Beijing–Shanghai High-Speed Railway that runs through five cities – Danyang, Chanzhou, Wixo, Shunzou and Kunshan.

Length: 164,800 m.
Opened: 2011.

Tianjin Grand Bridge

This one is also a part of Beijing–Shanghai High-Speed Railway. Tianjin Grand Bridge runs between Langfang and Qingxian.

Guinness World Records state it’s the second longest bridge in the world after Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge.

Length: 113,700 m.
Opened: 2011.

Jiaozhou Bay Bridge

Jiaozhou Bay Bridge is built along Jiazhoy Bay and held the record as the “longest bridge over water” before the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, which is approximately 12,000 m longer that this one.

This bridge cost CCTV around CN¥10 billion (US$1.5 billion).

Length: 26,707 m.

Lake Pontchartrain Causeway

This one located outside China in southern Louisiana, United States. Lake Pontchartrain Causeway runs over the lake of the same name – Lake Pontchartrain.

Before Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, Lake Pontchartrain Causeway was recorded by  Guinness World Records as the longest bridge over water in the world.

Length‎: 38.442 km.
Opened: 1956.
