What’s “blue blood moon”

The term “blue moon” refers to the second full moon in one calendar month. In January this will happen.

The first full moon was on the first day of 2018, the second – on January 31. The three events will occur at the same time – the “Blue Moon”, and the Super moon, and its eclipse of a bloody color.

NASA calls this phenomenon “super blue blood moon”. It was something that had not happened since 1866.

When it occurs in 2018

On January 31, 2018, the full moon will become the super moon and fall into the shadow of the Earth.

In this case, the apparent diameter of our natural satellite will increase by about 8%, and the surface itself will turn reddish brown.

Consequently, we’ll be able to see an eclipse.  Stages of super moon on January 31st, 2018, PST:

“For the (continental) U.S., the viewing will be best in the West,” said Gordon Johnston, program executive and lunar blogger at NASA Headquarters in Washington.

“If you live in North America, Alaska, or Hawaii, the eclipse will be visible before sunrise on Jan. 31. For those in the Middle East, Asia, eastern Russia, Australia and New Zealand, the “super blue blood moon” can be seen during moonrise in the morning on the 31st.”
