According to the Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention last year there were 2.3 million instances of STD diagnoses in the USA. Moreover, every year the level of infection increases, for example, from 2013 to 2018  syphilis raised up by 76% to 30,644 cases, while chlamydia became the most widely spread disease registered by the CDC.

These STDs are caused by bacteria, that’s why it can be treated with antibiotics, whenever you don’t take medicine it can prompt more complications, like infertility, high HIV risk, and more other bad consequences. However, the problem is that sometimes disease goes unnoticed that’s why even knowing first symptoms you can’t be protected.

Every year more and more people becoming infected with such infections and don’t start healing in time. Furthermore, it is crucial to know whether you are at risk or not.

“Super Gonorrhea”: should we be afraid?

Antibiotic-resistant gonorrhea is it a nightmare or reality? Unfortunately, not so long ago the CBC shared information that sometimes gonorrhea becomes invulnerable to almost all kinds of antibiotics once used to treat it.

And even though there have been no instances of untreatable gonorrhea in the US so far, Dr. Gail Bolan, the director of the CDC’s Division of STD Prevention consider that gonorrhea will eventually wear down our last highly effective antibiotic, and additional treatment options are urgently needed.

How to Protect Yourself

The best way to manage the danger of STDs is to prevent them primarily. There are some steps on how to bring down your risk of getting STDs, including being monogamous and using protection (remember not to use expired condoms).

Vaccination is a safe and effective method, it is recommended to prevent hepatitis B and HPV. Also, lowering your number of sex partners can decrease your risk for STDs. Finally, don’t forget to make STD tests regularly it can protect you and your future partner.
