Black Lightning (Russia)

Russia has attempted to copy foreign superheroes multiple times, including creating Avengers and X-men-like teams. This time, meet Dima, who isn’t an ordinary boy, but a superhero with a heroic name – Black Lightning.

Dima is a university student living from Moscow, who got Volga ’66  as a present. This car isn’t a simple one, but a piece of flying black tech equipped with rocket boosters. After a tragic accident, Dima becomes a hero who’s eager to save the world.

Burka Avenger (Pakistan)

Jiya aka Burka Avenger is a teacher at -girls’ school of burka-clad vigilantes that aims to save the fictional city of Halwapur from evil with help of weapons – books and pens.   They fight against the sinister magician Baba Bandook or the evil politician Vadero Pajero.

The creators of the show stated that burka is a part of a masquerade and the feature to contrast a large number of sexualized women characters in comics.

Emara (The United Arab Emirates)

A new superhero woman character joins the team! Meet Emara, a vigilante with hijabi, with her own mini-series on YouTube showed to 75,000 subscribers. Abu Dhabi-based Fatma Almheiri artist is a creator of Emara.

“Emara is the superhero I wanted growing up, that I didn’t get to have. This is me putting it out to the younger generation. I wanted Emara to dress modestly because … there are no hijabi main characters [in the superhero world],” says Almheiri.

Latifa (Saudi Arabia)

Latifa was created by Fahad Al Saud and written by Stan Berkowitz. She is one of the characters of “Saudi Girls Revolution” universe that is famous for a bunch of female lead series that are “not constrained by any religious or political status quo.”

The weapon of Latifa is a talking sword. She aims to find vengeance.

Kwezi (South Africa)

Kwezi, created by a graphic designer Loyiso Mkize, is an African character that should be a part of the Black Panther series of movies. Kwezi actually means “star” in the Xhosa and Zulu dialects.

Kwezi is quite a modern superhero – a 19-year-old guy who is into the social media with the ability to fly and the power of endurance and super-strength.

Ultraman (Japan)

Ultraman is an alien protector who saves Earth from giant monsters on a daily basis, however, the superhero can’t live on Earth, that’s why it inhabits a human body. Only when the time for the battle comes, he reveals his true form.

The fans of pop culture might have noticed that Ultraman resembles Power Rangers in its own Japanese way.
