Strange character decisions

The 1987’s Predator of John McTiernan is nothing but a brilliant choice of everything: characters, villain, plot details and action scenes. This years’ reboot is far from the original movie success as the plot is obviously boring and the characters are easy to forget and replace. Their action and lines make no sense in most of the cases.

As one of the examples, the scientist that by chance is trained in weapon, but nothing of it is shown in her character story and no one knows why she isn’t scary to fight Predator face-to-face.

“Poor story choices and strange, if not outright silly, character decisions result in an experience that will ultimately leave audiences feeling a great amount of “meh,” Jonathan Barkan for Dread Central.

Let’s make the villain bigger!

In one of the scenes, we see the predator that attacked some of the characters is on the run from another predator, much bigger one that is hunting other predators.

Number of in-jokes

The new installment is comedic and full of jokes, even a child swears in the new movie. Of course, it can attract the new audience, but the fans of the Predator franchise got not what they need.

The meta-comedy of the movie resembles American meta-movies like 22 Jump Street, which isn’t associated with “Predator” franchise in any case.

“Exhaustingly energetic mess”

The scenes are full of lines and event that don’t give an opportunity to rest at least for a few seconds. The audience is stuffed with a-specific-kind-of-humor remarks and action scenes of The Predator attacks.

“It’s an exhaustingly energetic mess in which a coherent plot and credible characters aren’t even on the cluttered menu,” wrote Dennis Harvey for Variety.

Near-senseless plot

Considering that it’s a reboot, the director should have put much more effort to make it better than the previous installments of the franchise. At least, with this amount of money spent on movie production, Shane Black and the co-writer, Fred Dekker, could come up with something less hackneyed.

“It’s crazy how filmmakers can spend SO much money, and overlook a good plot and character development. That’s the INEXPENSIVE stuff to get right. It’s really too bad this latest attempt does away with suspense/horror (according to the review), and stoops to the level of straight action. That’s boring. So boring,” Jeremy Twigg in the comment to Variety review.

Your life will never be the same again after watching these 4 horror movies:

Hiring a sex offender

Steven Wilder Striegel pleaded guilty in 2010 to an online relationship with a minor (of his “distant relatives”). Turned out that the director Shane Black was aware of the situation when he hired Striegel.

Later, the director apologized for hiring his old friend Striegel,  “Having read this morning’s news reports, it has sadly become clear to me that I was misled by a friend I really wanted to believe was telling me the truth when he described the circumstances of his conviction,“ he said. ”I believe strongly in giving people second chances – but sometimes you discover that chance is not as warranted as you may have hoped.”

Thought the director knew about the incident, the studio responsible for the new movie – 20th Century Fox – didn’t know that. After Olivia Munn shared this story, Fox removed  Steven Wilder Striege’s scene from the Predator.

“I personally chose to help a friend,” Black said in a statement to the Times. “I can understand others might disapprove, as his conviction was on a sensitive charge and not to be taken lightly.”

I’m a huge fan of the original but for me it’s the the end of the Predator franchise. Can’t put in words how disappointed I am.

I really enjoyed the funny moments in the movie. I wasn’t bored while watching it. Not a huge disappointment for me.
