Ursula K. Le Guin, a famous author of the Earthsea series, has died at the age of 88. She wrote more than 20 novels and more than 100 works of short fiction, which won numerous Locus, Hugo, and Nebula awards.
She changed fiction with melding dragons and wizards with spaceships to tackle earth-bound problems of race, gender and class.
The best-selling writer passed away on Monday at her home in Portland, Oregon, after a period of ill health.

The Left Hand of Darkness
The book was written in 1969. It’s a story of a lonely emissary who goes to Winter, an alien world whose inhabitants can choose -and change – their gender. His mission is to facilitate Winter’s inclusion in a growing intergalactic civilization. But to do so he must bridge the gulf between his own views and those of the completely dissimilar culture that he encounters.
A Wizard of Earthsea
This is a story is about the greatest sorcerer in all Earthsea who tampered with long-held secrets and loosed a terrible shadow upon the world.
The Dispossessed
The main character, Shevek, must make the dangerous journey to the utopian mother planet, Urras, to try to tear down the walls of hatred that have isolated his planet of anarchists from the rest of the civilized universe.
The Lathe of Heaven
The Lathe of Heaven is a dark vision and a warning — a fable of power uncontrolled and uncontrollable. It is a truly prescient and startling view of humanity and the consequences of playing God.
The Tombs of Atuan
Tenar is chosen as high priestess to the ancient and nameless Powers of the Earth. But one day young wizard, Ged, comes to steal the Tombs’ greatest hidden treasure, the Ring of Erreth-Akbe. But Ged also brings with him the light of magic, and together, he and Tenar escape from the darkness that has become her domain.
The Other Wind
The greatest fantasies of the 20th century are J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and Ursula K. Le Guin’s Earthsea Cycle. It won the annual World Fantasy Award for Best Novel.
