The Amityville Horror

The Amityville Horror movie is based on a real story of Ronald Defeo Jr, from Amityville, Long Island, who shot to death his entire family in their sleep: mother, father, younger brothers, and younger sisters.

The weird thing is that all members of the family were found in their beds lying on their stomachs. How none of them heard the gunshots and didn’t try to escape?

Zodiac

Zodiac killer is a real-life murderer who was active during the ’60s and ’70s in California and killed young couples in their cars. He also sent letters to the police, which contained a code that they had to crack to reveal his identity. Zodiac claimed that he murdered 37 people, and has never been caught.

Monster

Aileen Wuornos was a prostitute in Daytona Beach, Florida. She lured seven men into the woods and shot them. At first, she claimed it was self-defense but later said, “I’ve hated humans for a long time. I am a serial killer. I killed them in cold blood, real nasty.” In 2002 she was executed.

Scream

A real-life killer Danny Rolling, who was known as the Gainesville Ripper was an inspiration for Ghostface from the Scream movie. Danny killed five students in four days in Florida in 1990.

Heavenly Creatures

Heavenly Creatures is based on the story of 15-year-old best friends Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme from New Zealand. Pauline hated her mother, Honorah, and one day she and Juliet lured her into the park and bludgeoned her with a rock.

The girls spent 5 and a half years in prison and after that, Juliet moved to the UK and became a successful crime writer, Anne Perry.

Psycho and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

In November 1957, police saw a real-life horror scene in a farmhouse in Wisconsin: a lampshade made from a human face, bowls made out of human skulls and skulls on the bedposts, chairs upholstered in human skin, a pair of lips on a window blind drawstring, etc.

Ed Gein, the owner of the house, lived there alone after his mother died. He said that he dug up bodies from local graveyards, but later confessed to killing two women.

Smooth Talk

Smooth Talk is based on Charles “Smitty” Schmid’s murders. He lived in Tucson, Arizona in the ‘60s and was an extremely charismatic and popular guy. One day he started to boast about killing girls and even showed the bodies buried in the desert to his friends. But nobody spoke out because he was too powerful and popular.

Later it turned out that he murdered 3 girls and was imprisoned. In 1975 he was stabbed to death by other prisoners.

Wolf Creek

Wolf Creek was inspired by a true story that happened between 1992-1993 in Australia. Seven young backpackers were found murdered, hidden under ferns and sticks in the Belango State Forest. Ivan Milat, a 50-year-old road worker picked them up as hitchhikers and then killed them.
