An international tourist died after he fell hundreds of feet into the Grand Canyon while trying to take photos Thursday, March 28 authorities say.

According to David Leibowitz, a spokesman for Grand Canyon West, a tour group from Hong Kong was visiting the Grand Canyon, and many of the tourists were taking photos very close to the rim of the canyon.

While attempting to snap a photo at Eagle Point, adjacent to the popular Skywalk attraction, a 50-year-old man from the group accidentally fell off the rim and into the canyon.

According to Leibowitz, a helicopter search located the man’s body at the bottom of the canyon. His body will be transported by helicopter to the nearest hospital.

His identity hasn’t been released.

Woman attacked by a jaguar while taking a photo at Arizona zoo

A woman was attacked by a jaguar at Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium and Safari Park in Arizona as she crossed over a barrier to take a selfie.

“The visitor sustained non-life threatening injuries to their arm from one of our female jaguars. At the request of the family, paramedics were called. At no time was the animal out of its enclosure … please understand why barriers are put in place. Sending prayers to the family tonight,” the zoo tweeted.

The woman later apologized to Arizona zoo and said she “feels horrible about the bad publicity the zoo is getting regarding the incident.”

According to the witness, his family tried to distract the jaguar with the bottle of water as it put its claw into the woman’s flesh.

“Without thinking, I had no idea what I was going to see, I just ran over there,” he said. “I saw the other girl up against the fence with her arm caught in the jaguar’s claws.”

“When my mom put the water bottle through the gate, the jaguar let go of the girl. And we pulled the girl back and she collapsed,” he said.

A teenager who was visiting from Israel died Wednesday in Yosemite National Park while reportedly trying to take a selfie. Israel’s Foreign Ministry identified the teen as 18-year-old Tomer Frankfurter, and local sources confirmed the death.

Frankfurter apparently lost his balance while trying to take a photo of himself at the edge of Nevada Fall before falling 250 metres to his death, the teen’s mother told The Times of Israel.

Nevada Fall is about a 5-6 hour hike from Yosemite Valley, often along the route toward the famed Half Dome hike.
