1. A strong earthquake struck western Iran

The earthquake hit Iran’s western province of Kermanshah, near the border with Iraq, on Sunday. Local reports say many people have been injured but numbers have not yet been confirmed.

2. Whale stranding in New Zealand leaves 145 dead

A group of up to 145 pilot whales have died after becoming stranded on a beach on Stewart Island in New Zealand.

3. Tension escalates after Russia seizes Ukraine naval ships

Russia has fired on and seized three Ukrainian naval vessels off the Crimean Peninsula in a major escalation of tensions between the two countries. Two gunboats and a tug were captured by Russian forces. A number of Ukrainian crew members were injured.

4. Mexico to deport group which stormed US border

Mexico will deport up to 500 migrants who attempted to storm the US border, according to its interior ministry.

The InSight lander is being targeted at a flat plain just north of the planet’s equator called Elysium Planitia.

6. India’s first elephant hospital has opened

Designed for geriatric, sick, and injured elephants, the hospital — which spans over 12,000 square feet — is equipped with wireless digital X-Ray, thermal imaging, ultrasonography, tranquilization devices, and quarantine facilities, according to a Reuters report.
