Happy Birthday, America! The Independence Day 2018 is left behind but still, we have a lot of things to remember. From Chance The Rapper engagement to cool photos of celebrating, Nexter.org offers you to recollect in memory the 4th of July 2018 together.

Chance The Rapper got engaged

Different holidays always attract more attention and could be a great opportunity for proposing. Chance the Rapper also chose this day and got engaged to his girlfriend of five years, Kirsten Corley, after proposing at a July 4th barbecue.

The rapper’s brother posted a picture of himself and the couple with the caption “Proposed In The Hunninds! @chancetherapper You A Real One! 7-4-18 ”

The 25-year-old rapper, born Chancelor Jonathan Bennett, said in a video posted by the Shade Room, “Kirsten Katrina Corley, will you make me a man and be my wife?”

The couple’s 2-year-old daughter, Kensli, was in her father’s arms as the couple kissed.

Woman climbed the Statue Of Liberty to protest family separation

The most memorable part of the 4th of July was not fireworks or BBQ’s but a woman attempted to climb the Statue of Liberty on Wednesday, prompting officials to evacuate the island.

The woman, identified by the Associated Press as Therese Patricia Okoumou, told first responders that she climbed onto the statue “for the children in Texas,” a NYPD officer told reporters Wednesday night.

National Park Service spokesman Jerry Willis told the Associated Press that officers had been trying to persuade Okoumou to come down for approximately three hours. Police said Okoumou apologized to them for having to climb up and get her.

Joey Chestnut sets hot dog eating contest record

Joey “Jaws” Chestnut extended his reign as champion eater at the Nathan’s Famous July Fourth hot dog eating contest Wednesday, downing a record 74 wieners and buns in 10 minutes to take home the coveted Mustard Belt for an 11th time.

Miki Sudo held onto her title as the top woman’s competitor at the annual Brooklyn eat-off, chomping 37 franks and buns to take home the top prize for an unprecedented fifth consecutive year.

“I found a vicious rhythm,” the 34-year-old Chestnut said after the stuffing session. “I was feeling good today.”

As Nexter.org reported before, Chestnut’s previous record was 72 hot dogs and he worked hard to get ready for this year’s contest.

Twitter and misspelling the hashtag

Twitter and mistakes are two things that were made for each other.

Among those that have used the wrong hashtag on this patriotic holiday are the U.S. Air Force, the city of Boston, the Canadian Space Agency, and First Lady Melania Trump because of course.

Credit where it’s due: Melania at least caught the mistake and replaced the tweet with the correct spelling.

To be fair, Twitter seems to be autofilling the misspelled hashtag, “#IndependanceDay,” which means all it really takes to spread this is a few misspellings.

Fireworks trigger PTSD symptoms in veterans

The rockets’ red glare is an Independence Day tradition. But for the men and women of the U.S. armed forces, the jarring noises can trigger symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD.

Whether it’s a Roman candle, a traditional firecracker or small poppers, the sounds transport service men and women to the battlefield, conjuring up memories and images most have tried to forget.

“It depends on the state of mind I’m in. For some veterans it can be disturbing, it can make you angry,” said Benjamin Dupree, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps during Operation Desert Storm.

A nonprofit charity called “Military with PTSD” sells yard signs to veterans to put in their front lawn. In large print they say,” VETERAN LIVES HERE…PLEASE BE COURTEOUS WITH FIREWORKS.” It’s a way for civilians to be mindful if they have a veteran living next door.
