New holiday design

The company announced the new cup with the pair of hands forming the shape of a heart. Now customers may write the name of someone in the empty heart space and in such way ‘celebrate who fills your heart’ the brand’s promo video says.

“By introducing this cup, Starbucks encourages customers to recognize those who fill their heart and embody goodness this holiday season by writing that person’s name in the heart of the cup. Customers can then share their dedicated cup on social media with the hashtag #GiveGood.” Starbucks proclaimed in the statement.

Cups are criticized again

In October, giant coffee chain presented its first seasonal cup design of 2017. Since this year’s cup is meant to be customized, the released promotional video also features text that reads, “The mean something different to everyone.” The cups had a white background color and black outlines illustrating hands, presents, snowflakes and other holiday ornaments. Starbucks video raised a huge discussion among Twitter users and media as there featured a same-sex couple.

Two women, who presumed to be a lesbian couple, holding hands at the end of the video and were considered to be the same arms that are illustrated on the cup. It was understood as a pro-gay campaign from Starbucks.

“This year’s hand-drawn cup features scenes of celebrating with loved ones — whoever they may be,” adding, “We intentionally designed the cup so our customers can interpret it in their own way, adding their own color and illustrations,” the spokeswoman spokesman said to The New York Times.

On Twitter, people began using the hashtag #BoycottStarbucks and claimed the company was pushing its liberal or gay agenda onto consumers.
