Days When You Might Have a Headache in April 2018 – Because of Sun to Hit Earth with Intense Radiation

The solar storm is expected to hit the Earth April as a huge gash appeared on the surface of the sun, the SWPC reports.

Solar storm alert

A solar storm is a phenomenon known for an effect caused by solar wind that changes magnetic of the Earth. It’s forecast to hit Earth this week.

“A G1 (Minor) geomagnetic storm watch has been issued for 10 and 11 April 2018 due to the arrival of a negative polarity coronal hole high-speed stream,” SWPC wrote in the statement.

How does it work?

“These are areas of open magnetic field from which high speed solar wind rushes out into ,” C. Alex Young, the worker at NASA’s Goddard Flight Center, says. “This wind, if it interacts with the magnetosphere, can cause aurora to appear near the poles.”

Also, he stated that at least three “substantial” coronal holes were observed in the Sun recently. See the Sun’s magnetic field is exposed in the pics below:

According to NASA, “A solar flare is an intense burst of radiation coming from the release of magnetic energy associated with sunspots. Flares are our solar system’s largest explosive events.”

If the storm is strong enough, it will cause a coronal mass ejection (CME), which “are huge explosions of magnetic field and plasma from the Sun’s corona. When CMEs impact the Earth’s magnetosphere, they are responsible for geomagnetic storms and enhanced aurora.”

Coronal hole April 2018

Following our news item that we posted yesterday, the NOAA SWPC has issued an official minor G1 geomagnetic storm watch for 10 April (Tuesday) as an expected coronal hole solar wind stream is expected to arrive at Earth on this date. The video below shows the coronal hole on SDO's AIA 211 Ångström wavelength as it rotates across the Earth-facing solar disk.Follow it live on www.spaceweatherlive.com

What’s the effect on humans?

Though the magnetic field of Earth is strong enough to keep us protected and safe, it can slightly influence our well-being. Solar flare can cause headaches and disrupt sleep around the world.

Also, it can affect some marine mammals and make minor damage to Earth-orbiting satellites. The airplanes are also in danger, in case, the solar storm hits unexpectedly.

At the same time, one of the most beautiful phenomena can be brighter during the solar storm – Northern Lights in Michigan and Maine.
