New deepfake era?

Processing of each shot takes about 30 seconds, while the fakes are quite realistic. The creators of the service have already been accused of invading privacy.

The desktop version of DeepNude was launched at the end of March. On June 23, a separate program appeared for Windows and Linux. It can be downloaded, installed and used without an internet connection. Three versions are available:

  • free (after processing, the DeepNude logo will remain in the pictures);
  • for $ 50 (in the picture will remain the inscription “Fake”);
  • for $ 100 (the user will receive a clean photo without any marks).

To process the image, you just need to upload to the desktop version or application. Best of all, the service works with photos taken with good lighting and with pictures in bathing suits.

At the same time, the program does not cope well with people with their backs or half-turns facing the camera. In these cases, the app may fail and add extra nipples.

Sometimes the algorithm inserts a naked body where it should not be creating not really natural pictures. The interesting fact is that DeepNude doesn’t know how to work with men.

“The world is not yet ready for DeepNude”

The app DeepNude attracted a lot of attention within days after its launch. People were outraged by the technology and demanded to get rid of it.

“This is absolutely terrifying,” Katelyn Bowden, founder and CEO of revenge porn activism organization Badass, told Motherboard. “Now anyone could find themselves a victim of revenge porn, without ever having taken a nude photo. This tech should not be available to the public.”

According to the creator, a similar program would have appeared without them. And since the previous projects with their participation failed, they decided to make money out of this idea.

However, on June 27th, they announced the end of DeepNude:

Surely, it won’t stop others from using it or spreading the copies around the web.
