What this movie is about

Everybody knows who Robin Hood is, right? And it seems like it is almost impossible to make a bad movie about this good guy. But, according to the movie reviews, Otto Bathurst somehow managed it this time.

So, the movie is about young Robin of Loxley (played by Egerton), who lives his life as the lord of a manor, who later falls in love with a girl who tried to steal one of his horses – Marian (played by Eve Hewson). After that Robin leaves everything in Marian’s hands and goes to fight in the Crusades.

Four years pass by, a lot of things happen, like the fact that everybody thought that Robin was dead and Marian married another man and Robin trained to become a hero that steals from the rich and gives to the poor.

Robin Hood is played by Taron Egerton and even thought some think that he is a perfect fit for this role, it won’t save the movie anyway.

“Egerton makes for an ideal Robin, with his Lego-shaped jaw, and his ability to deliver lines with great sarcasm while looking good in stylish outerwear.

The only problem is that there isn’t much for Egerton’s Robin to say. The zingers don’t quite zing,” said Boston Globe’s Meredith Goldstein

What did the critics think?

Todd McCarthy from Hollywood Reporter wrote, “Well, it’s turned out even worse than anyone could have imagined. [Producer] Leonardo DiCaprio can rest easy in the knowledge that this fiasco will come and go so quickly that few will remember that it even existed, much less that he produced it.

“In a just world, everyone involved in this mess would be required to perform some sort of public penance.”

Empire clearly did not like the new look at the famous story either:

“Robin Hood misfires thanks to a crucial absence of internal logic. This world just doesn’t work.”

IndieWire wrote a hilarious yet brutally honest review of the movie

“There’s no flow to the combat, no sense behind the stunts, and no reason to invest in any of the empty noise around them. “Robin Hood” just strobes between boredom and absurdity so fast that it starts constantly providing both at once.”
