200 million people (75% of US population) received the test ‘Presidential Alert’ message that read: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”
The test message was sent out to check that an emergency communication system, in cases of such emergencies as natural disasters, missile attacks and acts of terrorism.
Why I didn’t get the ‘Presidential Alert’ message?
Some of people complained on Twitter and other social media that they haven’t received the ‘Presidential Alert’ message. The users started to worry that there might be a problem in the communication system between the White House and Americans, saying: “Will I be the first to die because I don’t know the nuke is coming?”.
The government asks people not to worry about it as this test was the very first time US emergency alert conducted through the mobile messages. So, now, they just have to identify problems with the system. After solving a number of problems, FCC, FEMA, and other mobile carriers will be able to improve the emergency text delivery.
