Apparently, 6 Academy Awards nominations are unable to stop the meme spree that broke on social media. But what’s causing such an outburst?

Positively acclaimed by critics for cast selection, costume and production design the movie is not supposed to inspire any jokes.

The romantic historical drama set in the 1950s conveys the story of a prodigy dressmaker named Reynolds Woodcock. The protagonist is tangled in an ardent love affair with a young waitress, Alma Elson.

The tumultuous relationship isn’t easy to deal with, so it quickly gets complicated. While every couple has their own way of resolving the interpersonal difficulties, Alma chooses to poison Reynolds to even out the dynamics.

Unexpectedly, Reynolds accepts her way of dealing with tensions, and it seems to work for them!

What Does #goals Hashtag Have to Do With All of This?

Now, that’s where it gets even weirder. Apparently, some Twitter users have found the Phantom Thread plot extremely relatable to their own experiences.

Suddenly, in the light of the infamous 50 Shades of Grey trilogy, all of it starts to make a totally new sense.

Twitter users decided to poke fun at the absurdity of a “poisoning solution,” so some of them simply tagged their movie-related posts with a bunch of hashtags like #goals and #ThisCouldBeUsButYouPlayin.

The Phantom Thread fans shouldn’t treat all of this way too seriously since in a way these memes are showing the support and appreciation of the movie.

In reality, the movie reflects on the underlying issues faced by almost every couple. The power balance, the inability to live up to partner’s expectations, neuroticism – are but a few problems the movie touches upon.

The beauty of love intertwined with human flaws that no relationship counseling can help.

If you ever experience relationship problems, you’d rather not poison your loved one. Try talking to them first instead, or resort to professional help. This should work in most cases.

Have you already watched the Phantom Thread? If not, you still have a chance to see the Oscar-nominated movie before the actual Academy Awards ceremony!
