North Korea broke a two-months lull in weapons testing with the launch of Hwasong-15 missile. An intercontinental ballistic missile can reach the “whole” US mainland, according to the local media.

Hwasong-15 is the upgrade of Hwasong-14 ballistic missile that reached a height of 4,475 kilometers (2,800 miles) and became the highest in North Korea’s weapon testing. After the start from Pyongsong, South Pyongan Province it landed in Japanese waters.

KCNA state news agency said North Korean leader Kim Jong-un “declared with pride that now we have finally realized the great historic cause of completing the state nuclear force, the cause of building a rocket power”.

The risk for the US

The US-based Union of Concerned Scientists concludes that the missile could have traveled more than 13,000km on a standard trajectory, thus reaching “any part of the continental United States”.

But, the experts also add, the missile had a very light mock warhead, that means it could hardly carry a nuclear payload, that is very heavy.

North Korea, however, claims that the Hwasong-15 could reach mainland US carrying a “super-large heavy warhead”.

What to do in case of North Korea Nukes

  • Gather as much as you can non-perishable food and sealed water.
  • Take flashlights and first aid kits.
  • Make sure you have access to a battery-powered radio and enough batteries.
  • Have a change of clothes in case your clothes become contaminated with radioactive fallout.
  • Try to hide in the most distant place from the blast zone.
  • The best place is underground, basements or official blast shelters.
  • Remember, that first two weeks are the most deadly.
