Nexter Movie News: ‘On the Basis of Sex’ and ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ Premieres, ‘Us’ First Trailer + More
Nexter.org prepared for you a weekly dose of most interesting movies premieres and announcements you might have missed this week.
‘On the Basis of Sex’ premiere
The film tells an inspiring and spirited true story that follows young lawyer Ruth Bader Ginsburg as she teams with her husband Marty to bring a groundbreaking case before the U.S. Court of Appeals and overturn a century of gender discrimination. The feature will premiere in 2018 in line with Justice Ginsburg’s 25th anniversary on the Supreme Court.
‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’ premiere
The “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch” is Netflix’s first-ever interactive movie for adults, which debuted on the service Friday. Set in 1984, “Bandersnatch” is the story of geeky teenager Stefan (played by Fionn Whitehead of “Dunkirk” fame) who sets out to turn a multiple-choice science-fiction book by the same title into a pioneering computer game that also presents the player with a series of choices.

‘Alexa & Katie’ season 2
After a successful first season, Season 2 of Netflix’s series Alexa & Katie is releasing just in time for the holidays. The heartwarming sitcom follows two best friends, Alexa and Katie, as they navigate high school life while Alexa undergoes treatment for cancer. Cancer is a serious subject, but the show seems pretty lighthearted.
Season 2 of Alexa & Katie hits Netflix on Dec. 26.
‘Us’ first trailer
Jordan Peele released the first trailer to his latest horror film “Us” on Tuesday morning. Starring Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o and “Black Panther” star Winston Duke, the film follows a family of four who are haunted by a demonic version of themselves.
“Us” makes its debut in theaters on March 15, 2019.
‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ reboot (without Johnny Depp)
Source: Disney
The Pirates of the Caribbean movie series is set to take a new direction without Johnny Depp reprising his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow.
When asked if the franchise can “survive without Johnny Depp”, Disney’s production chief Sean Bailey revealed there is an opportunity for the next film to be revamped.
“We want to bring in new energy and vitality,” Bailey told The Hollywood Reporter. Depp played the drunk and witty pirate in five films across 15 years.
The studio has brought in Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to execute the reimagined vision.
‘Wonder Woman’ sequel
The star of the series announced on Instagram that she had finished up filming on Sunday, coupled with a few shots from the set. The film had been shooting since June.
Unlike Chris Evans in his wrap post from the set of Avengers: Infinity War, Gadot’s post doesn’t appear to give away too much about the film’s plot.
What we do know is that Wonder Woman 1984 has been delayed by seven months, moving its release date from 2019 to Jun. 5, 2020.
