  • Recently President Donald Trump declared on his Twitter account that NY terrorist should be executed.
“NYC terrorist was happy as he asked to hang ISIS flag in his hospital room. He killed 8 people, badly injured 12. SHOULD GET DEATH PENALTY!’ the President tweeted late Wednesday night.
  • Saipov told the police he was inspired by Islamic State videos, in particular one showing ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, federal criminal complaint states. During the revision of Saipov’s cellphone, approximately 90 videos were found “many of which appear to be … ISIS-related propaganda.” The phone also had almost 4,000 images, many of which were ISIS propaganda, the FBI said in the complaint.
  • As Reuters reports Saipov planned the attack a year ago. Two months ago on October 22 he performed a trial run with a rental truck to practice turning the vehicle and “stated that he felt good about what he had done” after the attack.
  • As he confessed his purpose was “to inflict maximum damage against civilians” and that he specifically chose to strike on Halloween “because he believed there would be more civilians on the street for the holiday”.

Saipov planned the attack for several weeks, according to John Miller, the New York Police Department’s deputy commissioner for intelligence and counterterrorism.

“He did this in the name of ISIS … He appears to have followed, almost exactly to a tee, the instructions that ISIS has put out in their social-media channels before with instructions to their followers on how to carry out such an attack,” Miller said.

Furthermore, an Uzbek religious activist and blogger who met Saipov in the US told BBC Newsthat Saipov “was not well-educated and had no knowledge of the Koran before arriving in the US.”

In brief

The 29-year-old Uzbek immigrant who drove the vehicle was shot and injured by police. Now he is in critical condition after surgery but expected to survive.

Witnesses say the man was shouting “Allahu Akbar” (“God is greatest”) when he jumped out of the truck. As reported there was found a note referring to so-called Islamic State.

Officials said it was a terror attack – the deadliest in the city since the 11 September attacks. The mayor claimed it is “a particularly cowardly act of terror.”

Five of the killed victims were from Argentina. They were part of a group of 10 friends in New York celebrating the 30th anniversary of their graduation from a polytechnic college in the central city of Rosario.

Also, officials reported one of the dead was Belgian. Two other victims have not yet been identified.

Islamic Uber Driver

Pickup truck driver is Sayfullo Saipov who legally emigrated from Uzbekistan to US in 2010.

He had lived in Ohio for years and worked there as a commercial truck driver. Turned out that he also used to work as an Uber driver for more than 6 months. The company confirmed Saipov was one of the active drivers Tuesday night when he committed the attack.

“We are horrified by this senseless act of violence,” the company said in a statement. “Our hearts are with the victims and their families. We have reached out to law enforcement to provide our assistance.”

The family friend told The Cincinnati Enquirer Saipov was “really calm” and worked hard. “He always used to work,” she said. “He wouldn’t go to parties or anything. He only used to come home and rest and leave and go back to work.”

This act of violence was called a “lone wolf” attack by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo as there was no evidence to suggest it was part of a wider plot.

President’s reaction

President Donald Trump said it was “another attack by a very sick and deranged person” on Twitter and added – “NOT IN THE U.S.A.!”

Officially police haven’t claimed the Islamic State group stays after the New York mass slaughter, but Trump already claimed, “We must not allow ISIS to return, or enter, our country after defeating them in the Middle East and elsewhere. Enough!”
