Henri Le Masne reported missing since 1954

In 2005, Italien police found the remains of the skier 10,000 ft up in the Alp mountains, near the Swiss-Italian border. They thought the man died during a ski descent, but were unable to identify the name of the skier for 13 years.

Fortunately, DNA advanced investigation showed that the man was around 30-years-old, 5.4 feet tall, and died approximately in early spring. Also, they concluded that the man went missing sometime in the 1950s, as they found a coin in his pocket dated 1946-1950.

No matter how hard the police tried, they couldn’t find any evidence of this man’s existence. However, the police decided to post the results of the investigation on Facebook and asked subscribers and their friends to share the information and to help solve the mystery.

The magic of Facebook worked! The post went viral, and the news was quickly spread by the radio stations and newspapers. Listening to one of these radio stations, a French woman, Emma Nasem, learned that it might be her long-lost uncle!

She wrote a comment to the original police Facebook post, saying her uncle Henri Le Masne was lost in the Alps during the storm in 1954. A later DNA test using saliva taken from Nasem’s 95-year-old father confirmed the remains belonged to his brother, Henri Le Masne, police said.

“I am the brother of Henri Le Masne … who is likely the skier who disappeared 64 years ago. He was a bachelor and quite independent. He worked in the finance ministry in Paris,” Roger said in an email to the police.

The only information known about Henri is that he was 35 when he died, an employee of the French Ministry of Finance, and was passionate about skiing.
