Mina Mangal Death: 5 Facts About Afghan Journalist That Was Shot Dead in Broad Daylight
Mina Mangal, an Afghan journalist, and political advisor was shot dead in Kabul, evoking a wave of women’s rights activists to criticize the authority and its inaction.

Mina Mangal was an Afghan journalist, and parliamentary adviser.
She worked as a television presenter for popular Pashto-language channels before entering politics.
Also, Mina had recently become a cultural commission of the Afghan parliament.
She stated earlier that her life was in danger
The most devastating thing about this case is that Mangal has previously expressed her fear about being killed.
Killed in broad daylight
Mina has been murdered in broad daylight Saturday morning in southeast Kabul, CNN reports.
The police stated that the killers managed to escape the scene.

Women’s rights activists demand an investigation
Mangal clearly stated that she might be killed, however, the authorities put in zero effort to protect her from the murderers.
“This woman had already shared that her life was in danger. Why did nothing happen? We need answers,” Wazhma Frogh, an Afghan human rights lawyer and women’s rights campaigner said in a post on Twitter.
“#Farkhunda was burned to death, #BabyMahsa was kidnapped, raped & killed, #BibiAyesha nose was cut, Women got stoned and today #MinaMangal shoot 9 times. All these crimes took place mainly during the day & mainly in the green zone capital city of #Kabul. #StopKillingWomen,” member of parliament Shagufa Noorzai tweeted.
“Can’t stop my tears at the loss of this beautiful soul. She had a loud voice, & actively raising voice for her people. In this Facebook status she says she’s threatened & she says she she trusts her Allah & that a strong woman isn’t scared of death. RIP Mina Mangal,” women’s rights activist Wazhma Frogh said.
“So sad to hear, Journalist& Advisor to the Parliament #MinaMangal assassinated today in Kabul by an unknown person. She was a strong self made woman; RIP #Mina. She isn’t the 1st and wouldn’t be the last lost(unfortunately). Serious protection 4 female journalists! Is what we need,” Zalma Kharooti stated.
Journalists are targeted
Media workers are in danger in Afghanistan. In 2018 – 13 journalists were killed and at least 48 journalists were murdered between 1994 and 2018.
The list of dead public figures includes policewomen, politicians, educators, students and journalists. Also, Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head at the age of 15 in 2012.
