The congressional elections will be held on Tuesday, 6, November. Dozens of elections for governorships, as well as local mayoral and state legislative chamber elections, will also be held on the same date.

Midterm elections occur halfway between presidential elections, which occur every four years. All 435 members of the House of Representatives are up for election every two years, with one-third of the Senate up for election. Members of the Senate serve staggered six-year terms.

Fifty-one seats are needed for control of Senate and 218 are needed for the House. There are 36 governors that are facing a big verdict on Election Day.

#1 Registration deadlines by state:

If you haven’t registered your vote, you still have some time to do it till 6th of November in 17 states of America that are in red.

North Dakota has no voter registration, so you need to bring an ID to the polls.

#2 Deadlines to send in an absentee ballot by state:

Please note that most states require that the absentee ballot is postmarked and received by the 6th of November. However, some of the states will count your ballot as long as it arrives within up to 10 days of Election Day like Utah or West Virginia.

#3 For selfie-lovers: 

The interesting question is also whether you can or cannot take a pic of your ballot as posting a “ballot selfie” might be forbidden by the law of your state.

#4 Where you can vote online: 

For now, only 25 states allow voters (military service members protected under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (OUCAVA) to send in their absentee ballots electronically via email or a state-run online portal.
