NASA astronauts was able to identify the unknown microbes without sending them to Earth for analysis in the laboratory.
The results of conducted experiments and analysis and the samples of unknown organisms have been sent to Earth and proven to be correct.
Consequently, it became possible to treat astronauts’ illnesses right on board without wasting much time.
The investigation
The experiment had two phases: firstly astronauts collected all the needed material, then they sequenced and identified these microorganisms.
As a part of analysis, “petri plates were touched to various surfaces of the space station” and the DNA of the cells was isolated.
All those actions were done for the first time successfully. We should greet NASA with this major step in space exploration.
