Update (9:00 a.m. EST Dec.21):

  • The man who is responsible for the accident is 32-year-old drug addicted man with mental health problems;
  • He is an Australian citizen of Aphgan origin; 
  • The second man, who has been filming the incident, was taken into custody;
  • Police still doesn’t think it was a terrorist ;

In a nutshell: 

  • The car who plowed into the crowd in on Flinders Street, a busy junction in the centre of Melbourne at 4.30 p.m. local time, said CNN;
  • Victoria Police stated they arrested two men, but it was too early to say whether it was a deliberate act or not;
  • 13 people were severely injured and have been taken to hospital, including a child of pre-school age. Some of them are in a critical condition and have serious head injuries;
  • People were asked to leave the area for the time of investigation;
