What is ?

is French for “Fat Tuesday,” also known as Shrove Tuesday.

It is the day before Ash Wednesday, which marks the start of Christian Lent season leading up to Easter. In other words, it is the celebration of the last day of eating richer foods before the leaner days of Lent begin.

This year it is celebrated on Tuesday, March 5.

The most famous one is celebrated in  New Orleans, Louisiana,

However, the festival takes place in a number of other cities and countries such as Rio de Janeiro; Barranquilla, Colombia; Belgium, George Town, Cayman Islands; Port of Spain, Germany, Italy, Trinidad and Tobago; Quebec City, Quebec, Canada; and Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico.

What are  colors? 

The traditional colors of are gold, purple and green.

These colors are associated with specific symbols – purple represents justice, green represents faith, gold represents power.

The celebration of  Fat Tuesday varies from city to city. In most of the cases, it involves costumes, masks, fireworks and a lot of booze.

In the US (New Orleans), people like to dress up like fairies, animals, mythical creatures or the Medieval outfits.

Also, some of the costumes feature golden masks from Venice tradition.

Sometimes the celebration even includes women exposing their breasts in exchange for beads and trinkets.
