Apple has announced the launch of a voluntary recall program and the exchange of 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops sold between September 2015 and February 2017 due to the identified possibility of fire.
“Apple has determined that, in a limited number of older generation 15-inch MacBook Pro units, the battery may overheat and pose a fire safety risk,” the company stated.
You can check if your MacBook Pro repair program is available by entering the serial number on this page. It can be recognized on an Apple device or on a computer. In the case of a positive result, Apple recommends using the device and immediately contact an authorized Apple service center with free replacement of batteries for safety.
The tech giant suggests you check whether the laptop is affected: “To confirm which model you have, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of your screen. I
“f you have “MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015),” enter your computer’s serial number on the program page to see if it is eligible for a battery replacement.”

The workers will check whether your MacBook Pro battery is affected and replace it if needed. The whole process might take 1-2 weeks.
To make an appointment, do the following:
- Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
- Make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store.
- Contact Apple Support to arrange mail-in service via the Apple Repair Center.
