What happened

A low-cost that used to offer long-haul flights from UK airports earlier this year, including Stansted to the US, has collapsed.

The statement released by the company said: “On behalf of Primera Air team, we would like to thank you for your loyalty. On this sad day we are saying Goodbye to all of you.”

Primera Air said it was stopping all operations at midnight on Monday after 14 years of operations. Airport warned Primera Air passengers not to travel to the airport as well as noticed that routes include flights out of Stansted Airport to Washington, Newark, Boston and Toronto, as well as a base out of Birmingham airport.

Most of the ’s business involved taking Scandinavian holidaymakers to destinations such as Spain, Greece, Italy, Egypt and Turkey.

Now passengers who have traveled on an outward Primera flight need to make their own arrangements to return to the UK, the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority officially said.

Many angry customers took to Twitter to express their frustration to the ’s announcement:

Primera Air, which was founded in 2009, has served 97 destinations in more than 20 countries.

The , based in Riga, Latvia, announced last month that it planned to launch routes from Madrid to New York, Boston and Toronto next year.

What should you do if your flight is canceled?

It depends on how you purchased the flight. If you booked through a travel agent, then you may be covered by Atol protection. If you purchased the flight directly then normally this will not be covered by the Atol scheme.

If you have Atol protection, then you must be found an alternative flight home and need to contact your travel agent. If not, then you will need to book flights and pay for them out of your own pocket.
