The Legislative Assembly of the Australian state of Victoria approved the bill on euthanasia. In support of the law, 22 parliamentarians voted. Thus, the state of Victoria became the first state to legalize euthanasia.
The bill implies that from 19 June 2019 doctors will have an opportunity to help to end the life of adult deadly sick people, who are left to live less than a year. Terminally ill people will be able to request the lethal drugs.
About 20 years ago, Â in 1997, in the Northern Territory (one of the Australian states) the euthanasia be carried out under strict control was allowed.
But a couple of years later this bill was canceled since the idea of assisted death was fundamentally contrary to the principles of the Australian medical organization, as well as groups that protected the right to life.
Who’s allowed?
This option will be available to citizens of Victoria who are over the age of 18 and are able to make conscious decisions.
They should be terminally ill who are left to live less than a year.
Types of euthanasia
There are 3 types of euthanasia:
- Voluntary euthanasia (person can ask to end their life)
- Non-voluntary euthanasia (if a person in unable to make decisions and is terminally ill)
- Involuntary euthanasia (performed without person’s permission)

Reaction
The state’s premier, Daniel Andrews, said that the day of legalizing euthanasia is a necessary inevitable step to take:
Let's remember what we are debating here: the most conservative voluntary assisted dying model that has ever been proposed – let alone implemented – anywhere in the world.
This legislation is safe. Its purpose is clear. Its time has come. #springst

The lead Upper House candidate for the Voluntary Euthanasia Party, Shayne Higson, supports the idea of euthanasia and also thinks that its time has finally come:
I am disgusted to wake up and hear opponents in the Victorian upper house still filibustering in the #VAD debate. Bernie Finn is still talking about 'killing', 'poison' and 'the victim'. This is outrageous and embarrassing for our country. #springst

A conservative  Australian journalist, Pia Akerman, from Melbourne, sounds a little bit sarcastically:
Wow. Euthanasia passes in Victoria. Gay marriage by Christmas. A new Australia.
