Kendrick Lamar and Pulitzer Prize 

In 2018, Kendrick Lamar has become the first non-classical, non-jazz artist to win the Pulitzer Prize for for his 2017 album DAMN.

It was released almost a year ago on April 14, 2017. Pulitzer board members stated Lamar’s album is “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.”

Fans were shocked by the news and congratulate the rapper all over the Internet. Previously, Kendrick Lamar won the 2018 Grammy award for Best Rap Album of the year.

Also, Kendrick Lamar produced “Black Panther” OST, titled Black Panther: The Album, and released the lead single “All the Stars” you can listen to below.

Director of the movie, Ryan Coogler, decided that Lamar’s unique artistic style is perfect for the mood of the plot.

Bob Dylan and Nobel prize

In 2017, the singer-songwriter Bob Dylan won the Nobel prize for ‘having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.’

After the announcement of the winner, the secretary of the Swedish Academy, Sara Danius, stated she hoped the world would not be criticised for its choice, however, this news evoked a number of discussions.

Jared Leto and the Academy Award

In 2014, the frontman of “30 Seconds to Mars,” Jared Leto was honored with the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor nominations.

He portrayed Rayon, an HIV-positive transgender woman, in “Dallas Buyers Club”. Leto mentioned his mother during the speech, which was very touching, “in 1971 Bossier City, Louisiana, there was a teenage girl who was pregnant with her second child. She was a high school dropout and a single mom, but somehow, she managed to make a better life for herself and her children,” Leto said. “She encouraged her kids to be creative, to work hard and to do something special. That girl is my mother, and she’s here tonight.”


Eminem and the Academy Award

In 2003, Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” won an Oscar for Best Original Song. Though Eminem was not present at the Oscar ceremony, his award was picked up by “Lose Yourself” co-writer Luis Resto.

This song became platinum for 5 times and played in the film ‘8 Mile’.  


Prince and the Academy Award

Prince won the Oscar for Best Original Score to his 1984 movie ‘Purple Rain’. The soundtrack has since sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.
