Jonghyun, whose real name was Kim Jong-hyun, was a member of one of the most popular k-pop band SHINee. But constant stress and pressure of this industry became too much. According to CNN, on December 18, 2017, he sent a text to his sister saying, “Please let me go. Tell me I did well,” and, “Final farewell.” She called the police, who found he had hanged himself.
According to the Washington Post, two weeks before his death, Jonghyun sent a 47-line text to his friend, which was basically a suicide note talking about his depression, self-loathing, and how he can’t overcome it all and asked to release it if he “disappear from the world.”
Lee Seo-hyun was a leader of M.Street band that debuted in 2004. The financial collapse that happened in 2008 affected a lot of people, including Seo Hyun, who had invested not only his own money but that of friends and co-workers in the stock market and lost essentially all of it.
He couldn’t bear this stress anymore and hanged himself in a recording studio on December 1, 2008. He left a note “expressing that he was sorry to his parents, siblings, and loved ones.”
U;Nee, whose real name was Hur Youn, was a famous actress in South Korea, who later switched to singing. U;Nee had been suffering from depression and the constant online criticism and attacks became too overwhelming.
In January 2007, she had hanged herself at the age of 25. She didn’t leave a note but had written a post on her website saying, “I feel everything is empty. I am again walking down a path to reach a destination that I don’t know.”
Kim Min Soo
Kim Min Soo was a member of Monday Kiz duo debuted in 2005. In September 2007, he got in a major motorcycle accident, which took him four months to recover. South Korea, like many other countries, loves TV talent shows. After two members left a well-known girl group KARA, there was a competition for their place. According to Billboard, Ahn So Jin was one of the competitors, who made it to the top 4 but didn’t get in.
Years before she went on the show, So Jin went through years of boot camp and had been signed as a “trainee” to a major label. In 2015, she was announced as a member of a new group, April.
But something went wrong. So Jin was dropped both from the group and her agency contract. She became depressed and jumped from the 10th floor of her apartment. She was only 22.

Tany, whose real name was Kim Jin-soo, was a solo K-pop star, who tragically died at the age of 22. On April 14, 2018, he was driving together with his friend in a car at 2:30 in the morning, when he crashed into a “structure,” the car caught on fire and was absolutely destroyed. Both of them died.
Seo Jae-ho was a member of K-pop boy band Wanted. On March 11, 2004, he and other band members got in a serious car accident. According to the Korean source Dong A, it was the band’s manager who crashed their car into a 5-ton truck. Three of the band members were injured but Seo Jae-ho died.
Car accidents are a big problem in the K-pop industry, as the schedules are so crazy that it’s literally impossible to not be late unless you drive like crazy. Most of the time, managers that drive them to places get fine tickets, but sometimes the price is injuries or even their lives.
