Who Is Japan’s Princess Mako and TRUE Reason She Postpones Her Wedding Until 2020 (Video)
The Imperial Household Agency said Tuesday that Princess Mako and her commoner fiance Kei Komuro decided to postpone their engagement and wedding until at least 2020 due to “lack of preparation.”

Who is Princess Mako?
Princess Mako, 26, is the eldest granddaughter of Japan’s Emperor Akihito.
Last year, the Imperial Household announced the plans for the princess to marry Kei Komuro, a commoner she’d met five years previously at International Christian University in Tokyo.
Before his introduction as the royal fiance, Komuro, 26, was better known as the “Prince of the Sea,” after appearing in a beach tourism campaign for the city of Fujisawa, south of the capital.
The couple announced their engagement last September and were to wed in November.

Why they postponed the wedding?
The couple denies speculation the decision was related to tabloid criticism of her fiance’s family background. The real reasons they decided to wait are their young age and desire to think about marriage more deeply and have more time to prepare.
“We have come to realize the lack of time to make sufficient preparations for various events leading up to our marriage this autumn and our life afterward,” Mako wrote in a statement released through the agency. “We believe that we have rushed various things too much.”
“It is because of our immaturity and we just regret it,” the couple said in a statement Tuesday.

The move means the wedding will take place after the 84-year-old Emperor Akihito abdicates in April 2019, with Crown Prince Naruhito, Mako’s uncle, succeeding the Chrysanthemum throne the next day.
Under centuries-old Japanese law, the marriage would require Princess Mako to give up her royal status.
