Insane! Swedish People Are Inserting Chips in Their Hands to Replace Credit Cards, Keys and More

241

In Sweden, more than 4,000 people surgically inserted a tiny RFID chip between their thumb and index finger which works like a credit card, keys, and helps with other small things.

Today, Nexter.org will tell you more about this new, strange thing.

What exactly is this?

RFID (Radio-Frequency IDentification) chip is a small as a grain of rice device which is capable of carrying 2,000 bytes of data or less. It works only if it is several inches away from the reader and it doesn’t have a GPS tracker, which makes it safe to use, as it is almost impossible to steal any information from there and the person can’t be tracked.

How it works and what it does?

The chip is implanted directly under the skin between the thumb and index finger and it allows you to open your doors without keys and pay for public transport. Swedish railway company SJ allows passengers to pay for the ride by crediting funds directly to the microchip.

It also replaces different key cards, bank and travel cards, and all electronic wallets.

This is how the procedure looks like (don’t worry, there is no blood):

And this is how it looks like already in a hand:

The price of the chip together with the procedure is $180.

What was the public response?

Well, as usual, some people love it, some – hated it. And, we think, that we all can agree that it is a pretty convenient device. You do not need to carry around your keys, cards and a lot of other little things that are easy to lose.

But at the same time, chipping people? Are we sure that our personal information is really in a safe place? What if GPS trackers are added to these things and we won’t even know about it? All of this sounds like some antiutopian stuff, to be honest.

What do you think? Would you get one? Or maybe you already have it?
