There’s an old adage that goes, “it takes money to make money.” Well, not to disparage the author of that quote, but that’s simply not the case, at least not in today’s world. Today, you can make money online without having to spend any of your own money. Not convinced? Read on to discover four ways to make money on the internet without spending a dime:

Dropshipping

Dropshipping is a fairly easy way to make money online. When you do dropshipping with WordPress, it’s free to get started. Dropshipping is a method of retail fulfillment where you sell a product and a third-party supplier ships the product directly to the customer. Here’s how it works:

  • You find a third-party retailer with items you want to sell.
  • You create a WordPress dropshipping store and fill it with the products you want to sell.
  • You promote your store.
  • A customer visits your store and makes an order.
  • You take the customer’s money and use it to pay the supplier who then packages and ships the order.

WordPress offers free sites, so you don’t have to put any money out upfront, and since your supplier is carrying the inventory, you don’t have to pay for a product until you already have your customer’s money in hand.

Offer a Skill

Offering a skill online is a great way to make an income. There are a lot of businesses that need things done but don’t want to hire a full-time employee. Instead, they seek a person with the skill they require that they can contract out to. There are a number of sites out there, like Upwork and Fiverr, where you can advertise your skills or apply for freelance contract jobs. Some skills you might be able to perform are:

  • Writer
  • Web designer
  • Data Entry
  • Virtual Assistant
  • Bookkeeping
  • Video editor

The only thing you need to make money from offering a skill is a computer and an internet connection, so the startup cost is virtually nill.

Start a Blog

On its own, writing a blog won’t make you money. However, there are a number of ways to monetize your blog that will allow you to draw an income. Essentially, you need to have great content that people want to read, and then you can add money-making features. These features include:

  • Pay Per Click Advertising: you post ads on your site, and when a user clicks on an ad, you get paid.
  • Cost Per Mile Advertising: similar to Pay Per Click, but instead of getting paid per click, you get paid based on the number of page views you get.
  • Affiliate Marketing: you link to a product, and if someone buys the product, you get a commission.

There are plenty of free website builders online so that it won’t cost you anything but time.

Teach a Course Online

Teaching is a skill that will always be in demand, and with the power of the internet, you can teach people around the globe. You don’t even need a teaching degree. If you have an area of expertise, you can teach a class. For example, you could teach people how to start a podcast or how to fertilize a garden. No matter what you decide to teach, you’ll want to design a clear lesson plan with learning goals and ways for students to test their knowledge. The key here is to develop a course on an in-demand subject and in such a way that people enjoy learning.

There are several ways to go about making money from teaching online. You could join a teaching platform like SkillShare or UDemy, or you could start your own channel on YouTube. Either way, there are no costs to teaching online.
