Awards and critics reviews

The series has received generally positive reviews, with its first two seasons gaining universal critical acclaim.

It has won several awards, here’s the full list of them:

  • the 2011 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama;
  • the 2012 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series for its first season;
  • the 2012 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama for its second season;
  • the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series;
  • Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Damian Lewis and Claire Danes, respectively.

Is Season 7 worth watching?

Homeland season 7 is set to release this month, with even more high-stakes tension, political subterfuge and shots of Carrie Mathison looking panicked.

“It’s going to be an interesting Homeland season,” warns Alex Gansa, showrunner of “Homeland”.

Gansa says he was inspired by the headlines coming out of Washington, D.C. and the election of Donald Trump.

“I’m just addicted to MSNBC, Fox and CNN every night,” he says. “Donald Trump didn’t win an Emmy for ‘The Apprentice,’ but he should win an Emmy for this because he’s responsible for some pretty unbelievable television on a daily basis. And he should get props for that.”

Comparing the season seven storyline to Donald Trump’s current situation, writer and producer Gansa told the Washington Post: “You have an embattled and isolated president believing that the ‘deep state’ is against him. In our story, we have a president who feels the same way.”

There will also be a return for new character Brett O’Keefe (Jake Weber), the right-wing ‘shock jock’ who confronted Keane in his studio last time round, and was running an underground troll farm, in tandem with Dar.

When and Where to watch?

Homeland returns in the US on 11 February.

A UK premiere is expected to follow on Channel 4 the week after, most probably the Sunday (18 Feb), although this is yet to be confirmed. In the meantime, you can catch up on All4 or Netflix.
