Kilauea volcano has erupted near a residential area on Hawaii, the local authorities declared an emergency and the obligatory evacuation of 10,000 local residents, Express reports.

Kilauea volcano eruption

Almost 10,000 people have been forced to leave the populated area on Hawaii’s Big Island as Kilauea volcano erupted after a series of recent earthquakes.

Puu Oo, a volcanic crater collapsed this week, bursting lava down the mountain to the residential area.

Hawaii’s Governor David Ige says he asked National Guard to help evacuate thousands of people.

Puna community has 10,000 residents that were asked to leave the area.

Lava has buried 48 square miles.
