Google: Grab Your Spacesuit And Check Out The Google Maps Galaxy!

Nexter suggets you to try out online journey to Space from Google.

While Elon Musk still preparing for the first colonists on Mars, Google already gave you an opportunity to “visit” the system planets and their satellites in Google Maps.

The company introduced this new feature in their blog.

“Twenty years ago, the spacecraft Cassini launched from Cape Canaveral on a journey to uncover the secrets of Saturn and its many moons. During its mission, Cassini recorded and sent nearly half a million pictures back to Earth, allowing scientists to reconstruct these distant worlds in unprecedented detail” – writes Stafford Marquardt, Product Manager in Google.

Developers of the updates worked with more than 500 thousand photographs. Astronomical artist Björn Jónsson participated in the preparation of the Google Maps update. He created planetary maps of the satellites of Jupiter (Io, Europa and Ganymede) and Saturn (Mimas, Enceladus, Dione, Rey, Titan and Yapet), as well as Mercury, Venus, Mars, Pluto and the Moon.

How to get into Google’s outer space?

Using Google Maps it is possible to explore 16 space objects. You can see the plains of Enceladus, look at the Titan’s methane lakes behind clouds, view the massive crater of Mimas and make other fascinating space trips. In addition, on your “way home” you can get into International Space Station that is available for online excursions as before.

It has never been so easy to reach these space objects. All you need to do is zooming out from the Earth in satellite mode.
