Many of us are dreaming about all those amazing places we see on Instagram. But sometimes when we actually get there, it turns into the biggest disappointment in our lives.

Nexter.org collected 7 places that fall under this category.

Venice

A peaceful gondola ride on the canals of Venice sounds like a dream, right?

Well, if this is on your To Do List, be ready to pay $100 and be trapped between boats with other tourists for like 40 minutes. Doesn’t sound that peaceful now, huh?

And if you try to get away from that and have a peaceful walk in the city – bad news for you. Streets are even more crowded than waterways.

Las Vegas

Who doesn’t want to have a huge party in Las Vegas? People come to this Sin City from all over the world to spend their money and have the time of their lives. But is it really that much fun?

In fact, in 2015 in a survey by Yahoo Travel Las Vegas was voted the most overrated city in the world. Maybe it is because everything there is created specifically for tourists and it all seems artificial and lacks real culture, or maybe it is because of the overpriced cocktails, or the $5.99 ATM fees.

The vineyards of Napa Valley, California

This place is considered to be an exclusive wine destination.

In fact, because of the huge amount of tourists, Napa quickly gets overcrowded and overpriced. According to Bloomberg, wine tastings can cost up to $300 and might get even more expensive.

Dalian, China

According to Lonely Planet, this place is “one of the most relaxed and liveable cities in the northeast, if not all of China, with an impressive coastline, complete with swimming beaches.”

In reality, it looks a lot like a nightmare. Somebody wrote on TripAdvisor in October 2013, “I went on a weekday and almost could only see the water through banks and banks of locals!”

It might be an awesome place to visit but prepare yourself for the crowds.

Dubai

Luxurious hotels, ultra-modern architecture, and giant malls – this is Dubai. This is “one of the world’s most glamorous, spectacular and futuristic urban destinations,” according to Rough Guides.

But many people who visited this city find it entirely artificial, underwhelming and lacking in culture. Dubai is on several lists of the most overrated travel destinations.

Bahamas

Many people find it to be “almost like a very expensive Las Vegas.” Elysia Cadorniga wrote in the Odyssey, that the minimum price of a drink is $20, there is no real culture, and people are drinking irresponsibly and party until 4 a.m.

The Avenue des Champs Elysées in Paris

This is one of the most iconic streets and one of the most expensive shopping streets in the world. It is packed with high-end restaurants, museums, and five-star hotels.

But most of the time it is filled with tourists. And not only on the streets. Travel + Leisure included the Champs Elysées on its list of the 95 most overrated attractions in the world, noting that the avenue has very little appeal.

Have you ever visited any of these places? What are your thoughts?
