What we know so far
As we already know, “Arrival” and “Blade Runner 2049” director Denis Villeneuve officially announced in he’s going to make a legendary movie reboot of “Dune” that will be released in nearly two years. “Dune will probably take two years to make. The goal is to make two films, maybe more,” he said.
The original Dune movie was released in 1984 and was written and directed by David Lynch. It starred Kyle MacLachlan as a leader in the battle over the desert planet Arrakis – the only source of a material (“the spice”) that allows for space travel.

The original Dune novel by Frank Herbert was published in 1965 and its influence continues to be felt across the sci-fi genre today. Villeneuve has admitted it was one of the pinnacle sci-fi works that made him want to work in the genre to begin with and once called it his “longstanding dream” to adapt the novel to the big screen.
Herbert’s novel blends sci-fi and politics in fascinating ways, much like Villeneuve has in his previous directorial efforts, sci-fi or not.
