Deep Video Portraits
Deepfakes was a result of AI feature that turned into a new wave of porn videos – original actress’ faces are replaced with celebrities’. For instance, you can “accidentally” bump into the adult videos featuring celebs such as Kim Kardashian, Ivanka Trump, Gal Gadot, Maisie Williams, Selena Gomez, Emma Watson and more.
Obviously, all these adult videos aren’t real, it’s just a software manipulation that can be created even by a kid. This software, FakeApp, was downloaded more than 200,000 times since its release.
Deep Video Portraits is a paper submitted at SIGGRAPH. It introduces an improved technique similar to FakeApp software for reproducing the motions, facial expressions, and speech movements of another person.

This technique is far more comprehensive than deepfakes as it’s reproducing the exact movement of every part of the face – eyebrows, corners of the mouth, eyes and so on.
“I’m aware of the ethical implications,” Justus Theis, the co-author of the paper, stated to The Register. “That is also a reason why we published our results. I think it is important that the people get to know the possibilities of manipulation techniques.”

The battle continues
At the end of January, Pornhub started suggesting “deepfakes” videos on its website. Obviously, everybody was tempted to click on this recommendation.
Now, Hollywood wants to fight with it, and union SAG-AFTRA’s spokesperson said they “has undertaken an exhaustive review of our collective bargaining options and legislative options to combat any and all uses of digital re-creations.”
Deepfakes are only the first step: any re-creations that “defame our members and inhibit their ability to protect their images, voices, and performances from misappropriation” will be removed. But the problem is that you cannot take over the Internet as anyone can post anything anytime, and you won’t even know who’s the one spreading these videos.
At the beginning of the year, Twitter, Reddit, and Pornhub announced that they would remove deepfakes from their websites, however, a few days after new videos appeared on the websites.
