In the 1960s Marvel gave new strength to comic books and today’s Marvel Cinematic Universe has changed blockbusters forever. But it took quite a lot of time for studios to find the right way to make it all work which led to many cancelled sequels.

Nexter.org prepared you a list of the most interesting ones.

Unfortunately, Netflix decided to say goodbye to Marvel universe and confirmed that Season 3 of Jessica Jones will be the last one to air.

Krysten Ritter aka Jessica Jones expressed her thoughts about the cancellation on Instagram:

“I love these people to the moon and back,” she captioned the post. “It has been a dream to play Jessica alongside my amazing cast and the best crew in the business for these past 5 years. I am so grateful for every second of it.”

Netflix also confirmed that The Punisher will not return for a third season.

The Punisher star Jon Bernthal issued a goodbye to all the fans on Instagram:

“To all who have served. All who know loss. All who love and understand Frank and his pain. It has been an honor to walk in his boots. I’m endlessly grateful to the comic fans and the men and women of the Armed Services and law enforcement community who Frank means so much to.

“Thank you to the USMC and all the wonderful soldiers who trained me. Go Hard. Be safe.”

Punisher 2 (movie)

To be honest, it is pretty hard to make the Punisher’s character right but Jon Bernthal was able to do so. Then Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter rewrote a script but unfortunately, everything was for going their way.

When Thomas Jane quit because, according to Rotten Tomatoes, he was too disappointed by the new film he saw coming together and he didn’t want to be a part of it, it was the last straw.

The Hulk

Ang Lee’s Hulk film got a lot of criticism from the public when it first premiered in 2003, but later it actually has earned some respect for at least trying to do something completely different with the superhero genre.

Obviously, the creators weren’t planning to make a franchise but screenwriter James Schamus and Lee had some story ideas and even a script but the sequel that never happened.

Spider-Man 4

The first two Spider-Man are indisputable classics of the genre, but people had very controversial feelings about Spider-Man 3. Some loved it, some hated it, but everyone wanted to see the fourth movie to clear everything up. Sam Raimi wanted to make it perfect so when Sony pushed him against a deadline, he walked away from the project.

War Machine

The fact that Don Cheadle’s Colonel Jim Rhodes, aka War Machine, would get his own film seemed inevitable. Marvel even went as far as hiring a future Black Panther screenwriter but the project stopped when Shane Black took Jim Rhodes in a different direction.

Daredevil

Before the 2003 Daredevil movie with Ben Affleck got all that negative reputation, Mark Stephen Johnson, the writer/director was very excited about a sequel. Although, it ended up being replaced by Elektra movie, which basically killed the series until Netflix came around.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

You can say whatever you want about Tim Story’s Fantastic Four , but you have to admit that they did a pretty good job with the Silver Surfer. So, obviously, 20th Century Fox wanted to make a separate movie called Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Unluckily, the Fantastic Four sequel’s reception wasn’t so great, so the project faded away.

X-Men Origins: Magneto

Fox wanted to create a whole series of X-prequels. David Goyer was about to write and direct an X-Men Origins: Wolverine follow-up titled X-Men Origins: Magneto. When the movie came together, 20th Century Fox decided to first wait and see how their Wolverine prequel did.

And as you already guessed Wolverine movie was a setback and the movie about Magneto never happened.

How many of these would you watch if they weren’t canceled?
