Crazy Pictures and Videos of Heavy Flooding in Washington, D.C. – Even the White House Is Leaking
Dangerous flash flooding created havoc across the Washington, D.C. on Monday. The National Weather Service declared a flash flood emergency across the area.

Even the White House is leaking
Potent storms deluged the Washington, D.C. area Monday morning, marooning drivers atop their vehicles, transforming boulevards into brown rivers, filling parking garages with water, and dumping rainwater into the Metro.

The swampy capital certainly has a rich history of pummeling storms and flash floods, though the heaviest downpours have shot up by over 70 percent in the Northeast and 27 percent in the Southeast since the late 1950s.

National Weather Service meteorologist Cody Ledbetter said the storm dumped about 6.3 inches of rain near Frederick, Maryland, about 4.5 inches near Arlington, Virginia, and about 3.4 inches at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in a two-hour period.

Many roads were closed in the area, including the Clara Barton Parkway, Canal Road in D.C. and more, and some still are.

Images posted to social media showed drivers stranded in the floodwaters.
One video taken captured a rush of water breaking down from the surface and penetrating the concrete ceiling at the Virginia Square metro station in Arlington, Virginia.

Torrential rains in the Washington, D.C., area created floods all around the White House – and in the White House, including large puddles of water in the basement of the White House press room.
“It’s official: The White House basement is flooding,” tweeted CNBC correspondent Eamon Javers.
