Climate Gets Crazier – Freak Hailstorm Buries Mexico’s Guadalajara City Under FIVE FEET of Ice (Shocking Pics)
Mexico was hit by a freak early morning storm that saw hail pile up to nearly 5ft, leaving cars and roads buried underneath.

Six suburbs in the Mexican city of Guadalajara were carpeted in a thick layer of ice after a heavy hailstorm.

The ice was up to 1.5m (5ft) thick in places, half-burying vehicles.

More than 200 homes and businesses were damaged in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and at least 50 vehicles were reportedly swept away by the storm, according to local newspaper El Informador.

Army and emergency services personnel were drafted in to work on clearing the streets overnight and to support citizens who suffered damage to their homes.

Officials said there were no reports of any injuries or deaths.

The city had been basking in temperatures of more than 30C. It has been hit by hail storms before, but seldom this heavy.

Hailstorms form when warm, moist air from the surface rises upwards forming showers and storms. Temperatures higher up, even in summer, can get well below 0C and so ice crystals form along with something called “supercooled water” which then grows into pellets of ice.

Early this morning, more extreme weather was predicted off Mexico’s southern coast, as the US National Hurricane Centre said a newly formed tropical storm had gained strength.
The organization said it was expected to reach hurricane strength but was unlikely to threaten land.​​
