Hard times for Facebook came after the scandalous revelation that data analysis firm, Cambridge Analytica used information from 50 million users without their permission. 

After that many famous bloggers, celebs and WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton boosted the campaign #DeleteFacebook.

announced its withdrawal from Facebook in the official press release.

It has deactivated the accounts that Enterprises manages directly affecting some 25 million fans, according to the company.

”The recent news about Facebook’s alleged mismanagement of users’ data has solidified our decision to suspend our activity on the platform at this time,” reads the statement. “There are more than 25 million fans who engage with via our various Facebook pages, and we do not want to be complicit in exposing them to the reported practices.”

Tesla and SpaceX 

Elon Musk also deleted the Facebook pages for SpaceX and Tesla.

Later he explained on Twitter he did so not out of political motivation, but rather the platform made him nervous.

Each Facebook pages for both Tesla and SpaceX had about 2.6 million followers.

Will Ferrell

The famous comedian Will Ferrell declared in a Facebook post that he would be deleting his account within 72 hours, following revelations of Cambridge Analytica’s misuse of personal data from the social network’s users.

Ferrell wrote that he “always had an aversion to social media,” but used it to promote projects from himself and colleagues. Now the latest data breach was the final straw.

“I know I am not alone when I say that I was very disturbed to hear about Cambridge Analytica’s misuse of millions of Facebook users’ information in order to undermine our democracy and infringe on our citizens’ privacy,” he wrote.

Cher

Singer Cher also followed the movement and deleted her Facebook account, saying although the platform has helped her with her charity work, “There are things more ‘important’ than ??.”

Cher’s official page is still active on the social network, but perhaps she’s referring to her own personal account.

Mozilla 

Mozilla announced on its blog it was “taking a break” from Facebook.

The company, which created the Firefox web browser, said it was “pressing pause” on its Facebook advertising and won’t be posting to its Facebook official page.

Mozilla said it would consider returning to Facebook if it could better protect its users’ data.
