50 Shades of Grey in Cambridge College: Shocking Screenshots from Deleted Trailer
The Cambridge college is throwing an annual May Ball with an intriguing theme dubbed ‘Forest of Sin.’ The students have done their very best to promote the venue.
Namely, they shoot a May Ball trailer which made its viewers feel nostalgic for the Fifty Shades of Grey book. In the risque video, the students give not-so-subtle hints to the annual Ball’s main theme.

The shocking video portrays masked men and women wearing evening gowns and black ties.
In the woods, they kiss and pour champagne into each other’s mouths. At the very end of the trailer, the girl dressed in white takes a bite of an apple. Obviously, the apple symbolizes the original sin and directly addresses the ball theme.

Despite such a creative take on the Biblical topic, the video was taken down from the Hughes Hall May Ball website after garnering a 1000 watches!
The Hughes Hall representatives claimed the May Ball video would “reflect badly on them.” In turn, the college has expressed concerns that the video “could be interpreted as promoting sexualized stereotypes.”

The removal of the video stirred the pot, even more, causing the discussion of whether censorship is the right way of dealing with the issue. One of the video creators, Joe Cook, commented the censorship situation stating there was no vile idea behind the May Ball trailer.

Making the May Ball Accessible
The May Ball attendees mustn’t worry: the ball is still scheduled on 16th June to take place in the Hughes Hall. Moreover, earlier this year a 20% ticket discount has been announced for students on full bursaries.
This year’s May Ball is the cheapest in Cambridge, at a regular price of £95 per ticket, and a price of £75 for bursary students enrolled in any Cambridge college.
