At least 13 people were killed as shooting range at a bar in Thousand Oaks, California, authorities said early Thursday. Ventura County sheriff’s deputy among the dead, police say.

Twelve people, including a police officer, were killed after a gunman forced his way into the Borderline Bar & Grill and opened fire on Wednesday night.
The suspected gunman was also found dead at the scene. Up to 12 other people are injured.
Witnesses have described how a “maniac” gunman opened fire and hurled smoke bombs into the building.

At least 30 shots were fired at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, which is about 40 miles west of Los Angeles. The bar was hosting a “college country night” for students, according to its Instagram page.
Revellers rushed to hide in bathrooms, with one teenager forced to break a window with a chair to escape the gunshots.
Witnesses say a man fired several shots from a handgun before tossing smoke bombs into the crowded bar.

The Ventura County Fire Department said on Twitter that “multiple ambulances” had been requested.
Aerial footage of the scene showed at least eight police cars on a street with their lights flashing.
