What we know so far

Thousands of residents Northern California were evacuated as strong wildfire caused by dry conditions rushed towards small towns on yesterday.

Paradise, home to around 26,000 people, as well as Magalia, Concow, Butte Creek Canyon and Butte Valley areas are in danger due to the wildfire.

Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said: “We’re trying to get as many people out as quickly as possible and save as many lives as we can.”

Rick Carhart, a service spokesman, said: “The blaze is being driven by fairly strong winds.

“It’s really dry and we have low humidity and unfortunately those are great conditions for a to spread.”

“The whole town is burning,” Bob Van Camp, a resident, said. “We had to ride through flames to get here.”

“Multiple vehicles and structures being lost, firefighters are attempting to make a stand but behaviour is extreme,” tweeted Bernie Deyo.

The blaze began early on Thursday in the town of Paradise and quickly charred 8,000 acres.

Kim Kardashian posted Instagram videos saying: “Just landed back home and had 1 hour to pack up and evacuate our home.”
