Feeling sad, depressed or frustrated? You’re not alone with that as today is officially the gloomiest day of the year.

Today is the most depressing of the year with people’s moods affected by their post-Christmas finances, the bad weather and the long wait for summer.

Researchers have dubbed January 21 as Blue Monday after finding that people are at their loneliest, debt levels are at their highest and the weather is at its worst, at this time of year.

A survey by the Co-op found that 26% of British people claim that this month is when they feel the most isolated. On top of this, 87% of the population also feel the weather has a direct influence on their mood, according to a poll from LeoVegas.com.

But it might not just be the gloomy skies bringing the country down, as the data also suggests two-thirds (61%) of people feel depressed on their way to work. Manchester and Leeds topped its list of the places which suffer worst from the January blues.

On Monday, people are less likely to smile before 11:16am, they complain for 34 minutes on average – an additional 12 minutes to any other day, and almost half of the female participants call it their ‘ugly day’, according to the Toronto Sun.

Monday is also the most common day to have a heart attack or stroke.

Here’s how much Mondays are harmful!

McDonald’s will be helping the UK through the perils of January by dishing out free cheeseburgers for all. Well, anyone who’s got the My McDonald’s App.

All you have to do is download said app (available on both Google Play and the App store) and get on down to your nearest Maccy’s restaurant. One cheeseburger per customer. No purchase necessary. Simples.

The offer opens at 10.30am on Monday 21 January, so just get that app downloaded, locked and loaded for free cheeseburger joy.

The app, which enables customers to order, customize and pay for meals before arriving at the restaurant, cleverly recognizes when you’re within 100m of the restaurant and sends your order to the kitchen – meaning you can beat the queues, grab and go.
