Mother and wife of the Presidents

Barbara Bush is the second one (after Abigail Adams) in US history to have a husband and a son as President. She was a political figure as her husband, George H.W. Bush, who was elected as vice president and President.

After the term, Bush family left the White House, however, Barbara Bush stayed a potent spokeswoman for two of her sons – George W. and Jeb – as they tried for the presidential seat.

Even though she had problems with her health, she kept an active public life and had been raising money for charity.

Health issues

Bush was outlived by her husband, George H.W.; sons George W., Neil, Marvin and Jeb; daughter, Dorothy Bush Koch, and 17 grandchildren:

  • Bush had problems with her health for the whole life;
  • Firstly, in 1988, she was diagnosed with Graves’ disease and had open-heart surgery in 2009;
  • In 2008 she had a surgery for a perforated ulcer;
  • Then she was diagnosed with the congestive heart failure.

She died from the lung disease COPD and congestive heart failure.

Bush dynasty

In one of the most influential dynasties of America – the Bush family – has two presidents: the 41st, George H. W. Bush, and 43rd, George W. Bush. Jeb Bush, the son of the first and the brother of the second one, the Florida governor, also was believed to be the President, but he got out of the race, losing the preliminary vote to Donald Trump.

This means Barbara Bush is both mother and wife of the two Presidents of US.
